* Surtsey (Iceland)

쉬르체이는 아이슬란드의 화산섬으로 베스트만 제도의 남쪽에 있다.

이 섬은 1963년 11월 바다에서 용암이 격렬하게 분출되면서 모습이 나타났다. 그 뒤 3년 6개월 동안 화산의 중심부가 해발 150미터 이상 솟아 올라 섬(면적 2.5 킬로평방미터)이 되었다.

섬의 이름은 1965년 아이슬란드 정부가 아이슬란드 신화에 나오는 불의 신 '쉬튀르' 의 이름을 인용한 것이다.

Heimaey (Iceland)

아이슬란드 남부해안에서 7.4킬로미터의 거리에 있는 베스트만나이야르 제도의 섬으로 약4,500명이 거주하는 화산섬이다.

Geysir and Strokkur (Iceland)

아이슬란드 남서부의 Hvita강 옆, 간헐천인 '스트로쿠르'는  피스톤, 실린더라는 뜻으로 영어로는 the chun으로 불린다. '스트로쿠르'는 아이슬란드에서 가장 유명한 간헐온천으로 지름 18m, 깊이 1.8m의 크기로 주변의 다른 온천에 비해 물을 뿜어내는 횟수는 적지만 가장 높이 물줄기를 뿜어낸다. 60미터 이상 물을 뿜어 올릴 때도 있다.

Vatnajökull Glacier of lakes

아이슬란드의 남동쪽의 바트나이에쿨(호수빙하)는 그 규모가 아이슬란드에서 가장 크며,  그림스비튼 화산은 바트나이에쿨의 중앙부근에 있는 활화산이다.

♧ Vatnajökull (English: Glacier of lakes) is the largest glacier in Iceland. It is located in the south-east of the island  
♧ Grimsvötn volcano is situated near the center of the Vatnajökull ice cap in central Iceland and is one of Iceland's most active volcanoes. It has a complex of calderas and a subglacial caldera lake sustained by geothermal heat. Small eruptions have occurred at the volcano in 1983 and 1998. In 1996, the Gjálp subglacial eruption occurred north of the volcano and yet again in the fall of 2004.

Iceland Dettifoss

아이슬란드 북동부 요쿨사르(Jökulsár) 협곡 국립공원의 최남단에 있는 폭포로 유럽에서 가장 크고 장엄하다. 높이는 44m, 평균너비는 100m이다.

Hverfjall Crater

아이슬란드의 흐베르프잘(흐베르펠)분화구는 화산폭발시 방출되어 퇴적된 원형의 응회암[凝灰岩]으로 만들어졌고 지름이 1킬로미터에 달한다.

Hverfjall (Hverfell) is a tephra cone or tuff ring volcano in northern Iceland, to the east of Mývatn.

It erupted in 2500 BP in the southern part of the Krafla fissure swarm. The crater is approximately 1 km in diameter. Tephra has been carried from Hverfjall all over the Lake Myvatn area.
